Mabo Tofu From Iron Chef That Will Rock Your Socks Off

I never thought I would see the day where I could eat at one of the legendary iron chef’s restaurants. Additionally, he would have thought there would be one just 15 minutes away walking distance from my work. I am here to tell you I visited Chen Kenichi Mabo Tofu, a restaurant specializing in well… mabo tofu, and I must say, it may have been the best I’ve ever had. Let’s take a little look at the history behind the creator Chen Kenichi.

The iron chef Chen Kenichi is a legend when it comes to Chinese cuisine, and probably the world’s best when it comes to mabo tofu. If his title isn’t enough for you, then it’s probably worth noting that he was the only one to retain his title through the entire series. So you probably think the restaurant is quite reputable and all but what about the actual food?

Mike and and I ordered 2 different lunch sets, the not so clever A and B respectively. A focus more on the mabo tofu while serving noodles on the side with rice, soup and some pickled vegetables. The B set was nearly identical aside from the noodles being the main focus and the mabo tofu being a side dish.

Overall, the price was quite reasonable at 1500 yen for the lunch set considering the food was i.n.c.r.e.d.i.b.l.e. Seriously though, this could easily have been the best mabo tofu I have ever had, and I have made my rounds. When visiting Yokohama, make the iron chef proud and add this place to your top 5 places to eat.
